Why throw cups made from virgin plastic when we can throw some made from waste items? Products such as yogurt containers and shampoo bottles can have a new life instead of going to the landfill!
When consumers buy/throw/catch stuff made from recycled materials, the demand for the raw materials goes up and our recyclables become more valuable. That helps the whole recycling industry grow, which could help improve NOLA’s curbside recycling program.
“Post Consumer” recycled plastics come from items that have been used, discarded, collected, cleaned and transformed into a new product.
“Post Industrial” recycled plastic is virgin plastic that is leftover when factories are making a product. Instead of throwing it away, they use it to make something else.
Unfortunately, this cup can no longer be collected and recycled in Orleans Parish. In 2019 the City of New Orleans stopped recycling plastics #3-7 due to over supply and contamination issues. If consumers continue to demand new products made from recycled plastic and the industry grows, a full curbside program could one day return 🤞 For now this cup can be returned through the Gimme 5 program.
