Made in New Orleans by a woman owned business: Pixie Dust
The typical confetti cannons used during Mardi Gras parades shoot out βmylarβ which is a form of plastic. The thin strips are almost impossible to sweep up and are easily blown into our storm drains where they break down into micro-plastics. They can also start fires and cause electrical outages if shot onto power lines! π§
Each year New Orleans parades send tens of millions of dollars overseas to import throws made in factories with poor working conditions. As the culture of Mardi Gras shifts towards quality over quantity, we can start to find and promote throws like this confetti that are made by a local, small business and keep that money here in our community. π°βοΈπ°
